Travel Agents & Advisors:
Promote wellness travel, work with clients on wellness trips, or have expertise in wellness tourism. Agents and advisors looking to enter this market, please contact us.
Retreat Leaders, Wellness Practitioners, Educators & Wellness Travel Professionals:
Have a certification or license related to fitness or wellness, have hosted a retreat, led a class or course on wellness or wellness travel, or wellness or wellness travel as a core job function.
Designers, Architects & Consultants:
Strong focus on wellness in hospitality in the role and/or has relevant training, certificate(s) or credential(s).
The following are examples of qualifying WTA member offerings. It is not an exhaustive list nor must all of these criteria be met to become a WTA member. All are welcome to apply and applications will be reviewed by the WTA.
Hotels & Resorts
Any property where wellness is a primary focus with offerings in areas such as:

Food & Beverage
Restaurants use local and/or organic ingredients, many meals on menus list dietary restrictions, food scraps are used responsibly. -
Spa & Classes
The spa offers locally inspired and/or spiritual treatments, locally produced and/or organic products are used in treatments and available in the boutique. Many wellness classes are offered throughout the week. -
Gym & Fitness
The gym has natural light and plenty of space between machines, outdoor movement options are nearby (trails, watersports, large parks), leisure sports and facilities are available on-site, a pool which uses saltwater or other non-chemical treatment. -
Outdoors
Access to the open air and natural light such as rooftop quiet spaces, outdoor classes, and nearby green and blue spaces. -
Restoration
Plenty of quiet spaces available with requirements such as no devices or no music/loud talking and guest rooms designed for sleep wellness. -
Community and Sustainability
Local artists and musicians, local mentorship and/or charity programs, meaningful sustainability programs, all peoples welcomed as guests and employees.
Tour Operators
Offers nature-related fitness type activities (i.e. hiking, walking, cycling, kayaking, mountain biking, surfing, downhill skiing), offers agri-tourism, voluntourism, meditation, art “therapy” classes, healthy cooking classes.
Travel Agencies
Promote themselves as wellness travel specialists, offer wellness packages or are working with clients to plan and book wellness vacations. For those agencies looking to enter this market, please contact us.
Wellness Resorts & Retreats
A facility with accommodations and a range of hospitality services where the primary purpose is to provide programs and experiences for the wellness traveler. The resort or retreat comprises four primary elements: accommodations, wellness activities, healthy dining options, and wellness-related facilities.
Wellness Travel Companies
Companies working in the wellness tourism space but not classified as tour operators. Each will be individually assessed.
Wellness-Focused Cruise Providers
Cruise lines offering wellness-specific cruises.
The following are examples of qualifying WTA member offerings. It is not an exhaustive list nor must all of these criteria be met to become a WTA member. All are welcome to apply and applications will be reviewed by the WTA.
DMOs, DMCs, Tourist Offices & CVBs
The organization must have a wellness tourism strategy or initiative in place or wish to work with the WTA to develop one. The destination must offer authentic wellness experiences for travelers such as:

Hotels, Resorts or Other Accommodations for the Wellness Traveler
Significant open green and/or blue spaces: National or state park(s), access to water with physical non-motorized activities such as kayaking and SUP, miles of groomed trails, a section of the destination curated for outdoor non-motorized recreation and/or relaxation. -
Wellness Business Lists
Restaurants which use local/organic ingredients and offer nutritious meals with dietary restrictions listed on menus, spas with spiritual and/or local culturally inspired treatments, hot and cold springs, yoga and other wellness studios, gyms and other fitness facilities, sports courts and other leisure facilities.
Hospitality Brands
Must have an active brand-wide wellness initiative in the form of a clearly defined and deployed wellness strategy. Once a corporate brand becomes a member, entities under that brand umbrella become eligible to join at a reduced fee.
